Firefighters' Claims for OT May Reach $460,000

Three Murray firefighters have filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Murray, claiming they are owed overtime pay based on federal and state wage laws. Firefighters Kevin Doyle, Kevin Munsey and Kenneth Reynolds and 22 others claim that Murray must pay wage supplements to firefighters who participate in educational and training programs. The lawsuit cites the Fair Labor and Standards Act and the Kentucky Wage and Hours Act, which say the city must pay firefighters 11/2 times their regular pay for overtime. The city, though, excludes the supplement from its regular rate calculation.
